Welcome to the Harrison Sports Academy Long Island basketball training program. We provide valuable training sessions for all ages and abilities. To become a viable basketball player you must be able to dribble, pass and shoot. However, players must also learn the nuances of the game that come along with defense, rebounding and moving without the ball. Players will learn how to communicate with teammates. It’s important to learn skills but it’s more important to implement the skills during live action.
We have multiple layers to our training sessions. Part one consists of speed, conditioning and agility training. Teaching the proper footwork and working on maximizing short area quickness on your respective position as well as functional defensive drills. Athletes under out tutelage will work to become complete basketball players.
I. Form and Footwork
Harrison Sports Academy is adept at teaching the basic fundamentals of the game. One of the greatest assets a basketball player can master is balance. Think of a table. Now imagine if the legs underneath the table were stuck in the center. That would be one wobbly table with an insignificant base. And if your base is not built on a solid foundation it’s time to start anew. Whether you are dribbling the ball up the court, working on catch and shoot performance, or boxing out, the most successful players will have that base.
There are many factors that make players great. Being able to handle the ball might be the most underrated path to success. Most people think of ball handling as just dribbling. However, it’s much more than that. A player has to be able to pass, catch, dribble and deflect the ball at an extremely high rate. You’ll never be able to name one spot up shooter that couldn’t catch the ball. In a game that comes downs to tenths of seconds, playing a clean game can be the difference between a win and a loss.
Most of the best basketball players are hard to guard. Standing around and waiting for the ball is easy until it’s time to score. Maneuvering through picks and cutting to the basket may be difficult for the offensive player. But imagine what it’s like for the defender that’s constantly on the move following the action.
Once we put together productive movement with the ability to catch the ball, the game becomes easier. You become more of an offensive threat and you won’t be relied upon as a one trick pony. Therefore, we will add variety to your game at all levels.
